What it's like to study here

It is our firm belief that how we teach is every bit as important as what we teach. We aim to go beyond the formal academic curriculum to determine what learning and teaching means to pupils. Our first task is to build bridges of trust that enable pupils to develop the skills and knowledge they need to access the full school curriculum.

Each pupil has access to a full programme of careers education and guidance and the school is supported by our local Connexions service. The school provides a broad, needs based curriculum alongside meaningful skills and we also offer educational visits to relevant venues. We offer extensive opportunities for students to develop their skills – academic, practical and social – in a range of community based settings.

Ofsted Inspection says:

“Pupils thrive in this welcoming, caring school. From previous unsuccessful experiences, and often low starting points upon arrival”

” Pupils leave the school with appropriate qualifications and move on to meaningful destinations in either further education or work. This is as a result of good preparation for their future and strong transition arrangements. “

Celebrating British Values

Through Personal, Social and Health Education and the development of Social, Moral, Spiritual and Cultural, values that are inherent across the curriculum, students are taught to understand that while different people may hold different views about what is ‘right’ and ‘wrong’, all people living in England are subject to its law. (Promoting fundamental British values as part of SMSC in schools; Departmental advice for maintained schools, November 2014:DfE)
